* Biography
Dr. Leiting Zhang is an assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory, Uppsala University, Sweden. He received his PhD degree in 2018, under the joint supervision of Prof. Guohua Chen from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Prof. Jean-Marie Tarascon from the Collège de France. Dr. Zhang’s main research interests include mechanistic understanding of aqueous batteries, development and application of operando techniques, and machine learning-assisted lab automation. He has published more than 35 papers in journals such as Advanced Energy Materials, ACS Energy Letters, and Energy Storage Materials. He has been awarded several prestigious grants, including the Swedish Research Council starting grant. He is the recipient of the Bergstedt Prize of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Uppsala, and is a finalist of the 2024 Energy Lectureship (early career) from the Energy & Fuels Division of the American Chemical Society.

[Abstract]
With the growing global energy demand and the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions, the development of high-performance, environmentally friendly, and economically viable battery technologies has become particularly important. Aqueous batteries have attracted much attention for their safety and environmental friendliness, but their energy density and cycle life still need to be improved. In this presentation, the latest progress in the mechanistic study of aqueous batteries using advanced operando characterization techniques will be discussed. Preliminary results from the robotic automation and machine learning-assisted high-throughput electrolyte screening will be presented. This presentation aims to provide new perspectives and methods for the research and application of next-generation aqueous batteries, contributing to the realization of a sustainable energy future.
