Postdoctoral Position in Bioengineering & Biomaterials
University of California, Berkeley
Position Overview:
The Lee Lab at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join a multidisciplinary and international collaboration focused on developing next-generation rapid bone regeneration.
This position emphasizes the development, optimization, and biological evaluation of protein/peptide-based organic/inorganic nanocomposite biomaterials, leveraging biomimetic mineralization and self-assembly strategies.
This role is ideal for candidates with backgrounds in bioengineering, materials science, chemical engineering, or chemistry, with a passion for translating fundamental science into impactful clinical applications.
Key Responsibilities:
●
Develop and optimize bioinspired organic/inorganic nanocomposite materials, including protein/peptide-mineral hybrid systems with tunable structure and function.
●
Utilize biomineralization principles to enhance material performance, including mechanical strength via self-assembly and osteogenic potential.
●
Characterize physical and biological properties of composite materials using advanced analytical tools (e.g., SEM/TEM, XRD, FTIR, mechanical testing, biological assays).
●
Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary and international teams to correlate structure-property-function relationships.
●
Contribute to feedback loops with non-clinical and clinical teams for performance optimization and translational relevance.
●
Publish high-impact research and present findings in academic and clinical forums.
Preferred Qualifications:
●
Ph.D. in Materials Science, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
●
Experience with bioinspired materials, nanostructured composites, bio interfaces, or biomineralization is highly desirable.
●
Familiarity with bone regeneration, cell-material interactions, or soft-hard interface mechanics is a plus.
●
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
Application Process:
Please submit:
●
A cover letter highlighting your research experience and relevance to the project
●
A detailed CV
●
Contact information for two or more references
●
A brief statement of research interests and career goals
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Three postdoctoral positions are available.
