Prof. Gwan-Hyoung Lee’s group featured on Cover Image of Nano Letters

Dr. Jae Hwan Jeong and Prof. Gwan-Hyoung Lee reported higher friction at the grain boundary (GB) of chemically synthesized MoS2 using atomic force microscopy. They demonstrated the electric modulation of the friction near the GB, proving that different electric band structures at GB make anomalous friction behavior at GB by perturbing electrostatic force. This finding presents the first experimental analysis of the frictional properties of GB of 2D materials, suggesting the linkage between the mechanical and electrical properties of 2D materials. This work was published in Nano Letters and highlighted in supplementary cover images.
