Research Interests
∎ Mechanics of materials, mechanical behavior of materials and fracture
∎ Multiscale, Multiphysics simulations of metal, Li-ion battery, and semi-conductor components
∎ Experimental mechanics including virtual fields method, and new material testing methods
∎ Finite element modeling, crystal plasticity, phase fields and cellular automaton
∎ Forming & shaping of advanced steels, light weight alloys
∎ Micro-mechanics based friction, contact fatigue modeling
∎ Data-driven modeling and simulations
Lab Overview
Our research focuses on understanding fundamental mechanical responses of structural and functional materials. We study integrated multi-physics and multi-scale materials science and engineering experimentally and computationally. The fields of application include manufacturing of automotive parts and electrical devices, mechanical integrity of battery, computational design of semi-conductor process etc. State of art computational modeling and simulations aim to understand the effect of microstructure on the macroscopic behavior of material system, which helps the field engineers design materials with better performance.
