Biodegradable & Stretchable Metallic Glass for Eco and Bio-Friendly Electronics (Advanced Science, 2021)

 

Jae-Young Bae (Ph.D. Candidate from Prof. Seung-Kyun Kang group) has introduced the biodegradable and stretchable metallic materials for biodegradable electronic devices. He provided the insight the amorphous metals, metallic glass, has superior elastic strain without crystalline defect. He demonstrates excellent biodegradability and stretchability of nanoscale MgZnCa metallic glass. Also the research suggests fatigue resistive triboelectric nanogenerators which transform the mechanical energy to electrical energy. Fully biodegradable MgZnCa metallic glass (MG) film is proposed for intrinsically stretchable electrodes with a high yield limit (≈2.6%), exploiting the advantages of amorphous phases with no crystalline defects. The top image shows the highly stretchable MgZnCa MG electrode integrating serpentine structure. Dissolution images of fatigue‐resistant triboelectric nanogenerator demonstrate the application of intrinsically stretchable MgZnCa MG in repeatable stretching mode.
